About The Event
Double Decker Bus that Busked Round the World in 1969 - Coming to Bantry!
Join us, and them, in a three-day celebration with Music, Movie and Mayhem to raise funds for West Cork Sudbury School and Bantry Lions Suicide Awareness Drop-in Centre, 17th-19th June.
Richard King, original member of the Pillock crew, bass player in their band The Philanderers and author of the book Band on the Bus will be at the Mariner on Friday 17th June. He will talk about the trip and give a taster for the film before leading everyone into a celebratory singalong of some of the songs that took them around the world.
A terrific chance to meet Pillock Crew members plus singalong and dancing to World Music and more - an eclectic night with something for everyone.
Corinna Swara opens with her ethnic-style electronic groove, original chant based vocals and varied beats of Reggae and more. The Pillock crew will be joined by fab local musicians in a stage pile-up busking showdown, with classic upbeat folk music and song and original compositions to spice up the mix. DJ Squian will take us into the night with his mix of world beats, Squian is known for raising the roof of many a West Cork party venue, playing Cumbia, Balkan, Tribal and Trad for your dancing delight.
This event is FREE. There will also be 'pass the hat' and a raffle to raise funds.
Any and all donations are welcome.
In 1969, nine young ordinary men set out on an extraordinary 3-year-long world trip in Pillock II, a double-decker bus. From this they produced an amazing feature length film, Pillock Conquers the World
This unique film was first premiered in 1982 and has been shown to various clubs, societies and festivals, ever since, including Adventure Travel Film Festivals in both the UK and Australia and at the Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts. The film is an inspiration for everyone who sees it - and we are thrilled to have this opportunity to bring Pillock Conquers the World to Bantry!
This is no home movie, it is a professional quality record of a unique trip and has always proved of significance and impact for its viewers.
The film will be shown at Cinemax Bantry on the Saturday 18th June. Book here.
The bus, Pillock II, will be parked for all to view near the slob car park in Bantry on Sunday 19th June and make musical contributions to the live music there.
